Dara Grace Torres (born April 15, 1967, in Los Angeles, California) is an American swimming legend. She broke her first world record at the age of 14, retired from swimming twice and came back three times, with her latest effort inspiring millions. Her determination is incredible as is her focus on success.

Torres is featured in the book Gold in the Water by P.H. Mullen, which describes her comeback for the 2000 Olympics under coaches Richard Quick and Dick Jochums. She broke the World Record in the women's 50 m freestyle three times during the early 1980's.

She subsequently attended the University of Florida, where she received 28 All-American honors. Torres has worked on television as a reporter and announcer for American networks such as NBC, ESPN, TNT, OLN and Fox News Channel.

On August 1st, 2007 at the age of 40 (just 15 months after giving birth to her first child), she won gold in the 100 meter freestyle at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, her 14th win at these events. She then followed that up on August 4th at the US Olympic trials, by breaking her own American record in the 50m freestyle.

On July 6th also at the Olympic trials she reveled her secret - Fitness Nutrition Amino Acid complex (Amsport) helped her in her Olympic comeback. She credits the Amino Acid complex to helping her develop leaner, stronger muscle and helping with muscle recovery.
At 41, Torres just competed in her 5th Olympic Games bringing home 3 silver medals. She is the first (and oldest) swimmer in Olympic History to compete in 5 games (1984, 1988, 1992, 2000 and 2008), winning 12 Olympic medals (four gold, four silver and four bronze).
